Julie Gillespie, DPT joins SynergiePT
Los Angeles, CA (July 29, 2019) -- Synergie Physical Therapy (SynergiePT) is pleased to announce that Julie Gillespie PT, DPT has joined the clinic in Westchester, CA. With a specialty in identifying and treating pelvic floor disorders for men and women, Gillespie has worked with hundreds of patients throughout the Los Angeles area to achieve optimal core fitness.
“Julie’s 30 years of pelvic health experience, paired with her warm and encouraging approach and depth of knowledge, will help our patients overcome issues associated with many pelvic floor conditions,” said Julie Guthrie, PT, DPT, OCS, founder of SynergiePT. “Personally, I am delighted to welcome Julie to Synergie PT. Julie was my first pelvic health mentor, and I not only have tremendous respect for her expertise, but I also know firsthand that she has positively impacted so many clients’ overall health.”
Gillespie, who will see patients at SynergiePT starting this week, treats patients who suffer from a variety of urinary, bowel and sexual conditions including incontinence, dyspareunia, coccydynia, testiculitis, vulvodynia, and vaginismus. She treats women whose inner core has been detrimentally affected by the stages of menstruation, maternity, postpartum and menopause. She also treats women who have been subject to sexual trauma or assault, to help them regain sensitivity, strength and comfort, as well as men who have pelvic disorders or inner core weakness. For ten years, Julie worked at a cancer hospital helping post prostatectomy and post bladder cancer patients.
“I am thrilled to work with Julie Guthrie at the outstanding facilities at SynergiePT,” said Gillespie. “Julie is widely regarded for her approach to physical therapy, with a specialty in conditions affecting elite and professional athletes. Sometimes men and women who suffer from pelvic disorders are shy about discussing their condition. I help to demystify a patient’s preconceived notions about pelvic floor therapy, and empower the patient to embark on a therapeutic program that will improve his or her emotional, physical and sexual wellbeing.”
The clinicians at SynergiePT are board certified Doctors of Physical Therapy with an array of clinical experience and expertise in orthopedics, movement analysis, injury prevention, women’s health and pelvic floor disorders. The facility is fully outfitted with state-of-the-art technology and equipment.
A pioneer in the advancement of pelvic floor wellness, Gillespie led the nation’s very first university-based clinical Women’s Health Program at the University of Southern California, where she helped the faculty treat patients for incontinence through physical therapy. Her leadership and development of unique treatment plans for muscle dysfunction resulted in significant improvements for the men and women in the program.
Gillespie earned her Masters and Doctorate in Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California, and her Physical Therapy degree from Mount Saint Mary’s College. She has owned and/or managed several OB/GYN, continence and women’s healthcare groups in California, including the Women’s Health Program at USC.
In addition, Gillespie has taught Women’s Health in the physical therapy programs at Mt. St. Mary’s College, Northridge and Loma Linda. In 2019, she was invited to Shenzhen, China to lecture on pelvic floor conditions and sexual disorders. She has been recognized for her pelvic floor research with an award from the American Physical Therapy Association.
